Humankind are an established provider of substance misuse, health, young people and families, employment training and education and housing services. We are proud to be a national charity based in the North East, promoting fair chances for all.
Our County Durham Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service supports residents across the County with substance misuse issues from three recovery centres (Durham, Peterlee and Bishop Auckland) and a wide range of community venues. To further strengthen the support offered by the service, we have additional funding for an 18 month period for a Recovery Outreach Worker for County Durham and Darlington. 
This post will work in close partnership with Housing Teams in both Durham and Darlington local authorities and a number of key stakeholders to pro-actively engage with individuals sleeping rough to enable access to sustainable, safe accommodation. A crucial element of this role will be supporting people to overcome the challenges their drug and/or alcohol use may create in relation to finding and keeping a safe place to live.
The successful post holder will match Humankind’s ambition, and commitment to provide the highest standards of service delivery across County Durham and Darlington, engaging with local people and supporting their priorities
Main duties of the role will include:
? Working proactively to engage vulnerable people sleeping rough in County Durham and Darlington to receive specialist support to treat and recover from substance misuse problems.  ? Preventing and reducing rough sleeping by helping individuals to move into supported, more permanent accommodation.  ? Creating and improving networks and signposting opportunities by improving communications and pathways between services to ensure a seamless holistic package of care for individuals.
