Volunteer Role Description
Role title Volunteer: Multiple Roles
Team reporting to The Manchester Resettlement Service
Brief description of project
The Manchester Resettlement Service (MCR) supports people with a range of complex issues, including drug/ alcohol misuse and/or mental ill-health, and a history of failed tenancies and/or repeat homelessness.
MCR will provide comprehensive support to people moving on from temporary and supported accommodation into permanent tenancies, helping people to:
• Manage and sustain tenancies
• Access the services and support they require
• Improve their health and wellbeing
• Move towards work, skills development or training
• Reduce their social isolation
• Move on to independent living

Details of Role (Tasks)
We are looking for people who have knowledge of homelessness or issues including mental illness, offending, substance misuse, etc.
As a volunteer you will support clients to have control over their own lives, feel happier and safer in their homes, learn skills for independent living and develop community connections. You will also support clients to participate in meaningful activities which could Include work, training, volunteering and interests/ hobbies.
Peer support is about the giving and receiving help, founded on the key principles of respect, shared responsibility and mutual agreement. It is about being understanding another’s situation empathically through shared experience.
We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and are open to offering other volunteering roles to suit an individual’s skills, interests and goals.
This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who wishes to develop their skills and knowledge within a supportive role and increase their practical experience and skillsets by working with those who have experienced homelessness, mental illness, substance misuse, offending, etc.
Although previous experience of support work is not necessary, you will be confident at communicating effectively with a range of individuals whilst remaining non-judgmental and understanding of a variety of issues our service users face. You will also be able to share your own experience in the hope of helping others.
The candidate must be honest and reliable, committed to attend training and engage in supervision, be prepared to volunteer their time and work within the policies and procedures of Humankind.
• Good communication skills – confident communicating with a range of people both face to face and by telephone
• Reliable, honest and approachable
• Willingness to learn new skills
• Ability to present self in a professional manner
• Good IT skills
• Able to work to instruction and on own initiative
• Committed to attending mandatory training, workshops and regular supervision
